Company History

In 1969 at the age of 17, Geoffrey Harris walked into Habitat in London's Fulham Road and got his first job at £15.00 a week! The job was in the lighting department. He has been selling lighting ever since having 'got the bug' at an early age.

Coincidentally most of the major Italian lighting companies were still in their infancy at that time and Geoffrey has seen the birth of many of what are today regarded as classic twentieth century lighting products.

On November 23^rd 1973 Geoffrey opened The London Lighting Company in London's Fulham Road which he ran until 1991. In 1980 the company moved from a small 500 square foot shop to a large 4000 square foot shop. Annual visits to Milan brought back exciting new stock each year, but by the end of the eighties it seemed like a good time for a change. After an eight year break, Geoffrey began to feel nostalgic for the early days in a small shop in Fulham Road and began the search for a new location.

Geoffrey Harris Lighting Ltd was established as a retail shop in Battersea in 1999. There are several items that we sell now, that were on display in Fulham Road on the opening day back in 1973, although the price has gone up a bit. We have been trading from our website since June 2003. This is the third and very much improved site launched in April 2009.
